旋转编码是用于检测旋转角度及其衍生机械参数的一类传感器，包括速度和加速度等，可检测旋转、直线等传动运动。由于应用广泛，现代旋转编码器可见于诸多机械与自动化工厂中。
**值编码器可以为每个轴位置提供一个**的码值。特别是在位置控制中，**值编码器减轻了控制器的计算任务，并且降低了其他附加的输入部件的成本。
此外，在电源启动后或者电源故障，不需要参考驱动，可获得当前的准确位置。并行编码器是通过几根电源线传输数据而串行编码器是通过标准的接口和协议来传输数据。
**值编码器的多种类接口：Parallel Interface；SSI-Interface；AS-Interface；CAN；DeviceNet；Ethernet；PROFIBUS和 PROFINET。
该系列PROFIBUS旋转编码器采用现代快速单圈采样技术和机械齿轮组多圈机构。该**值编码器符合编号为3.062用于编码器的PROFIBUS协议。操作基于Class1和Class2。
当操作时基于Class1，位置数据和诊断数据字节1...16可用。另外计数方向可选择为CW顺时针增加(顺时针旋转, 数据编码增加)或CW顺时针减少(顺时针旋转, 数据编码减少）。
如果旋转编码器操作时基于Class2，那些在Class1基础上附加的功能便可使用。这些功能包括，单圈分辨率、总分辨率缩放，位置预置功能，同时还支持扩展诊断报告。
除此之外，该系列旋转编码器还提供扩展功能。例如，速度反馈，扩展比例因子，可编程限位开关以及调试模式。
可拆卸端子盒装有滑动终端电阻开关以及地址拨码开关。可通过这些开关来设置编码器地址和网络终端。此编码器用轴安装方式，法兰为同步法兰或夹紧法兰。
